Annapurna Conservation Area is largest protected area in Nepal which covers an area of 7,629 sq. km, rich in biodiversity and is home to 1,226 species of flowering plants, 102 mammals, 474 birds, 39 reptiles and 22 amphibians. Trekking in Annapurna region is always special as it is a unique place in the world as it contains world’s largest rhododendron forest in Ghorepani, beautiful Tilicho lake which is the world’s highest altitude fresh water lake also located in Manang – north of Annapurna massif. World’s deepest Kali Gandaki River Gorge is also another major attractions in this region which is 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, a valley with fossils from the Tethys Sea dating 60 million years ago.
Annapurna region is home to over 100000 residents of different cultural and linguistic groups. Gurung and Magar are the dominant groups in the south, whereas Thakali, Manange and Loba are dominant in the north. Each of these groups speaks their own dialect, and have unique cultures and traditions.
